*Phew!*

I was so pleased by last night's premiere of The Amazing Race. No boyfriends berating their girlfriends, no ugly Americans, and no dating models! It actually felt like a return to the TAR I know and love.

Except for Rob and Amber. Their constant mentioning of "Survivor" and their mugging to the camera (I think they spent more time talking to the camera than they did to each other) grew tired very, very quickly. But you've always gotta have one team to hate, and I guess, for now, they're it.

Rain,

You must have been feeling generous last night. I was so hoping the "pow" and his trophy fiance would get booted. I mean, really, he introduces himself to that other macho idiot and the first thing he says is, "I'm going to donate my million to the disabled. Is he coniving, self-righteous, or just stupid...time will tell.

I was just so glad not to see the equivalent of Victoria and Jonathan, or those two who won last time (I refuse to mention them by name) that I was willing to overlook some of the assiness of this latest batch of racers. But indeed, I do think the POW and the Beauty Queen will grow tiresome very quickly, as will the bleach blondes and the brothers. I am liking the other chick team, though, although their near meltdown during the llama task didn't bode well for the future....

I was all set to hate Rob & Ambah, but I must confess, I actually like them...true, they sure don't need the money or the fame...but that aside, they seem to really have fun and enjoy each other. As for the rest of the crew, I have a few early likes and dislikes...like the brothers, dislike the "lifelong friends"...like the retired couple (herded the llamas like nobody's business)...dislike the POW & the beauty queen(pompous & self-righteous,him; boooring, her;)...like the "Barbies"...dislike the "On-off couple (shades of J&V)...but as always in this show, I could change my mind, and then again maybe not.

And further...Last night's detours were gimmes..herding a couple llamas and carrying baskets. I want to see some challanges! When the going gets tough, then we'll find out who we really like or really dislike.

Well, the "challenges" have been gimmes for a while. I didn't see the first couple of seasons where clues were actual clues and people had to figure stuff out instead of being told "go here, and then do this." That said, I do find it amusing that even when the task is a "gimme" some people just can't do it. I mean, how easy did those grandparents make herding llamas look? And how idiotic did the others look trying to do the same thing?
