Musty TV's Maniacal Movie Countdown - Day 21

Hitchcock's "The Lady Vanishes" isn't exactly scary, but it does contain some patented Hitchcock supsense. It's also a weird little movie because it really feels like two movies in one. The first half is quite comedic, and once the lady vanishes, it turns into a whodunnit. It's on at 3:30am on Retroplex, but also seems to be available in its entirety--albeit broken up--on YouTube. Here are the first eight minutes or so.

BUTTERNUT SQUASH SOUP CELL PHONE!

This week's reality TV locals post is now up on SFist!

In other news, last night at about 11:15 some guy started yelling outside my building, "HELLO?! I NEED TO GET MY CELL PHONE!.....HELLO? CELL PHONE!" I figured he was yelling to someone he knew who lives on the street side of my building. Wasn't sure why he didn't just ring a buzzer, but then again our front gate light is out, AGAIN, and the buzzers are hard to read in the dark. But then he started ringing buzzers randomly, and I think my new downstairs neighbors buzzed him in. Big mistake. I overheard him telling them, "I need to get my cell phone back. Some girl in this building took it."

The hell?

He then proceeded to go door-to-door in my building, POUNDING on doors and yelling "I need to get my cell phone!" When someone would yell through the door, "You have the wrong apartment!!" or something to that effect, he'd say, "OK. Sorry!" and move to the next apartment. But here's the weird thing: he pounded on what sounded like every door in my building, EXCEPT for mine!

I don't know what scared him away. The sight of me in my kitchen washing dishes in my pajamas, or the completely terrifying Target bag full of old pillows in front of my door. (They're headed for the trash, but I didn't feel like bringing them downstairs, OK?) Whatever it was, he avoided my door like the plague. Which is pretty funny, since I DO have his cell phone.

Of Chicken Piccata and Raw Beef

This week's reality TV locals round-up comes in two tasty servings. Part one focuses on "America's Next Top Model," and you can read on SFist here.

And part two is all about "Top Chef" and its four local chefs. Read it here.

Warning: Questionable uses of raw meat and chicken ahead.

I Thought This Stuff Went Out In the 70s

Was I the only one who was offended by last night's "America's Next Top Model" photo shoot which had the girls posing as scantily-clad murder victims? I thought we got beyond all this once Helmut Newton died.

I don't know. It just really gave me the creeps. Especially how during the photo Jay kept going on and on about how much better the girls were when they were acting like they were dead....

Edited to add: In answer to my own question: no. Apparently I wasn't the only one offended. [via TV Tattle]

Edited again to add: I guess they got a little nervous over there at the CW as they've removed all the photos from the "murder victim" shoot. I changed the link above to another site that has the original photo I linked to. You can also see the rest of the photos there.

Nnenna Nnenna, Hey Ay Yay, Good-Bye

I didn't get a chance to talk about last week's "America's Next Top Model" weekly conference call with the loser, in this case, Nnenna. Probably because I only heard half of the call--I attempted to listen to the other half via speaker phone, and it just wasn't cutting it. She talked about her stupid boyfriend, who it sounds like she's still seeing, and how the show's editors made it look like she was talking to him on the phone every day, when she says she only talked to him twice. Hmmm.

Right now I'm watching this week's episode and have come to the conclusion that this has been the worst season so far. They keep eliminating the pretty girls, and now all they have left are two ugly girls, two totally bland girls, and one so-so girl. I'll let you guess who I think is who.

I Hope the Script Isn't Filled With Medical Terms

America's "Next" Top Model, Eva Pigford, is going to be on tonight's episode of Kevin Hill. And if you recall the acting challenge they had during her season of ANTM, you know that this could be embarassing. Tune in!

America's Next Top Models -- Or Not

The latest batch of contestants for the fourth season of America's Next Top Model have been announced, and there's not a plus-size gal amongst them. Oh well. It's not like they would have ever allowed one to win anyway.

For the record, there's one (sort of) local girl in the running: Lluvy from Modesto.

Ummmm....Pigford?

America's Next Top Model's last name is Pigford.

Oh Eva. I'm so sorry! And I really hope you go the "Twiggy," "Verushka," and "Iman" route and just go by "Eva" from now on. We promise to throw in "The Diva" whenever we can.
