This week is the first official week of Fall TV, which means my carefree days of TV avoidance are OVER. Alas. Of course, I am glad to see the return of some shows ("Community; "30 Rock," and....uh...could that be it??) and am somewhat relieved to learn there really aren't a lot of new shows I'm that excited about. WHICH! Brings me to the reason for this post. I'll be giving a quick rundown of this week's new shows every day over on the Appeal, and you can read today's post right here!
And, as always, you can see my weekly Hey, Watch It! post on the SFGate Culture blog. Go, now, and learn about Elvira's return to late night movie hosting!

Hey! Lookit Me!
I know it seems like I've been neglecting this blog, and, well, I guess that's true. But that doesn't mean I don't write anymore! I just continue to write for other sites. My daily TV picks are still going up every day on the SFGate Culture Blog. You should read them! Also, the San Francisco International Film Festival is going on, and I am going to a few movies and events, and writing about them for the San Francisco Appeal. You should be reading the Appeal daily anyway, but now you can also read some of my stuff, too! Like this post about Walter Murch's State of Cinema Address, which I attended on Sunday.
There. Now you're all caught up!

Gobble Gobble!
Happy Thanksgiving!
I begin this holiday a bit disappointed. I was so hoping some TV station out there would air "Blood Freak" today, since it really is the perfect Thanksgiving film. It's a pro-Jesus horror movie about the dangers of drug use, and tainted-turkey eating, and how a combination of the two can turn you into a horrific man-sized fowl in search of blood. Really, is there any other message more meaningful today?
Here's the first 10 minutes. Alas, the really good stuff doesn't happen until further in, but perhaps it will encourage you to add this sucker to your Netflix queue, and stat.
As for other Thanksgiving Day TV viewing, go on over to the Culture Blog for my rundown of today's (other) essentials.
Have a great holiday, everybody!

Hey, Joe
I've got a review of the documentary "Little Joe" up on the SF Appeal right now, and I am posting about it here just as an excuse to add this image to my blog, for all posterity.
Hubba hubba.
And while you're at the Appeal, you might as well check out my take on the new reality series "NYC Prep."
And don't forget my daily posts on the SFGate Culture Blog!

Link-a-Doo
It may look like I'm taking a break from blogging or something, but that's just not the case. I just haven't posted stuff here as much. So this is a reminder that you should be reading my "Hey, Watch It!" posts every day on the SFGate Culture Blog, and I also have a bunch of movie and TV reviews over on the San Francisco Appeal. So go over to both those places and catch up. Now. No, now!
Then you can come back here and watch these totally NSFW videos featuring The Muppets.

It's Friday. I am so over this week. As a reminder, be sure to check out the San Francisco Appeal, and the SFGate Culture Blog for my latest stuff!
Is it five yet? No? Whatever. Play me off, keyboard cat!

Yoooo-Hooooo!
Yeah, I know. It's been a little quiet around here. It's just that I've been swamped with other Internet bloggy Web site newspapers, and stuff like work and life, is all. (But mainly other Internet bloggy Web site newspapers.)
So, go over to the San Francisco Appeal to check out some movie reviews and the start of a new TV column by moi. And don't forget that you can see my daily TV picks over on the SFGate Culture Blog every day at noon!
Oh, and the other thing I've been doing is watching "Soul Train" videos on YouTube. Can't get enough. Here's one featuring the O'Jays doing one of my all-time fave soul classics, "Backstabbers." Watch the dancer in the front, wearing the vest. I love the hand movement he does whenever the line "they're smiling in your face" is sung. Classic.

Easter Blogit
Happy Easter!
Just a reminder that while "Tube Tops" is no longer, I am continuing to write TV picks for the SFGate Culture Blog, but these will be appearing on a daily basis. The first "Hey, Watch It!" is up now!
I'm not going to post a reminder here everyday, so if you want to keep reading, I suggest you add the Culture Blog to your RSS reader. Or just make it your homepage, why dontcha?

Don't Stay Up Thinking Of Ways to Get Rid Of Me. It Makes Wrinkles.
This week's Tube Tops is now up on the SFGate Culture Blog!
I'd also suggest you go get the Sunday Chronicle, just for its "TV Week," because that's gonna be the last one featuring my weekly "Tube Tops" on the cover. It comes as no surprise, really. I knew the minute all the drama with the Chronicle started to go down that it would be unlikely they'd continue to do a custom cover for something they could just "outsource" for less. So the "TV Week" is going to be one of those generic things that appear in numerous Sunday papers, kind of like Pulitzer Prize-winning "Parade" magazine.
But all is not lost, as I will continue to write for the Culture Blog on SFGate, most likely on a daily basis. So instead of a weekly Tube Tops post, you'll be able to read my TV picks every day of the week! And that's better than appearing on a piece of paper that just ends up in the recycling bin, right?
Right?!

He Had No Idea How to Play the Cello. He Was Blowing Into It
This week's Tube Tops is now up on the SFGate Culture Blog!
I have no idea if I have a cold, or have just suddenly developed an allergy to sunshine, but whatever it is, my head feels like it's underwater. I'm being forced to breathe through my mouth, and I never realized how incredibly annoying that can be. I guess I'll never be a scuba diver.

A Jungle of Death!
This week's Tube Tops is now up on the SFGate Culture Blog!
Man, I am one popped puppy. I had planned on taking in another day of the WonderCon, but the two days I already spent there must have caught up with me, as I woke up barely able to move, I was so tired. Instead, I think I'll spend the day on the couch reading some of the comics I got and catching up on the TiVo.
Anyway, I think I caught the best part of the convention yesterday. We saw about the first 20 minutes of "Watchmen," and it has me even more psyched to see the movie than I was before (I bought my tickets for opening night over a week ago). Which isn't to say I don't have my worries about it. For one, the actress playing Silk Spectre II looks way too young. Also, I fear Zack Snyder's slo-mo will get real annoying real fast. Also, if he sticks way too close to the book, pulling full pieces of dialogue, that could be risky. What reads good on the comic book page can sound really corny when spoken aloud in a movie. I just hope he gets the tone right...
So, a few worries. But no matter, I'll still be there this Friday night with the rest of the city's nerdy brethren.

Not to Be Confused With 'Young Frankenstein'
This week's Tube Tops is now up on the SFGate Culture Blog!
I can't believe I didn't get an invite to Swifty Lazar's Oscar party this year....what's that now? He's dead?....Ah, well, that explains it then.

A Girl? Perhaps. Or...a Monster
This week's Tube Tops is now up on the SFGate Culture Blog!
Week two? three? of my cold, and while I feel fine for the most part, I am still blowing some pretty disgusting things into my Kleenex.
Just thought I'd share.

Black! And Stacked! And Packed with Fury!
Whoops! Almost forgot. This week's Tube Tops is up on the SFGate Culture Blog!
Thanks MLK for the holiday. My cold has reached the chocking-on-my-own-snot phase, which is always the most horrible for both me and anyone who is around me; I am not fit to be in public quite yet. Back to bed!
