A Jungle of Death!

This week's Tube Tops is now up on the SFGate Culture Blog!

Man, I am one popped puppy. I had planned on taking in another day of the WonderCon, but the two days I already spent there must have caught up with me, as I woke up barely able to move, I was so tired. Instead, I think I'll spend the day on the couch reading some of the comics I got and catching up on the TiVo.

Anyway, I think I caught the best part of the convention yesterday. We saw about the first 20 minutes of "Watchmen," and it has me even more psyched to see the movie than I was before (I bought my tickets for opening night over a week ago). Which isn't to say I don't have my worries about it. For one, the actress playing Silk Spectre II looks way too young. Also, I fear Zack Snyder's slo-mo will get real annoying real fast. Also, if he sticks way too close to the book, pulling full pieces of dialogue, that could be risky. What reads good on the comic book page can sound really corny when spoken aloud in a movie. I just hope he gets the tone right...

So, a few worries. But no matter, I'll still be there this Friday night with the rest of the city's nerdy brethren.

Nerrrrrrrds!

I'm going to spend most of my weekend cringing in disbelief at the sheer awkwardness of all the people around me--and I'm just talking about my friends! Ha! BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE!

Yeah. I'll be at WonderCon. Here's a little intro I wrote for the SFGate Culture Blog.

Pop Goes the...Something That Rhymes With Weasel

I've got a post about this weekend's WonderCon over on the SFGate Culture Blog, and this week's reality TV locals post is up on SFist. Warning: Bullet points ahead!

It was quite the pop culture weekend, what with the WonderCon and the Oscars, and therefore kind of exhausting. I don't really have much to say about those Oscars, apart from the fact that I did horribly with my predictions. I got movie, director, actor, supporting actor, screenplays, and a few of the smaller awards, but failed miserably on most of the others. I also wasn't too impressed by the hair-dos on most of the gals. So many of them had this messy hair pulled back, but the front all dangly and messy thing going on that just looked like what your average housewife does to her hair when she's getting read to clean the house. I say either go pulled back and slick and neat, or leave the hair down with some nice waves. (I haven't the energy to link to any photos, but just check out some of the Oscar fashion highlights anywhere else, and you'll see what I mean.)

Also, the most exciting aspect of the evening was waiting to see if someone would totally fall on their face slipping on that apparently greased section of the Oscar stage.

Even More WonderCon

I wrote another, briefer post about WonderCon for SFist. And that's all I have to say about WonderCon for the next year or so. I promise.

WonderContinues

I wrote about this weekend's WonderCon experience for the SFGate Culture Blog. Check it out!

Man. I am more pooped than pooped can be. I think I'm actually writing this in my sleep. I hope I don't start to drool on my lap top.

Hello Doiley!

Man, there was so much good stuff going on at ComiCon this year that I don't even know where to begin. So I won't. Not that I went or anything. I have to make do with the local WonderCon, which just seems to pale in comparison. Of course, we don't have to deal with 100 degree weather and mile-long lines for our con, although the crowds are usually just as sweaty.

Here's one thing from ComiCon: A clip from the upcoming "Simpsons" movie. It's in the sketch phase, but still pretty funny.

Fat Storm Troopers

You can read more about my WonderCon weekend over at SFist now. It's kind of funny that the post was put together by three people who were at WonderCon on Saturday, but never actually met up the entire day...

My Family's Always Been In Meat

I went to WonderCon this weekend and all I got was this lousy t-shirt, four pins, some glow-in-the-dark blood, a poster, a postcard, and a hat.

Actually, I had a great time, and will probably post something about it on SFist soon. But I have to say that the most exciting celebrity sighting I had was Edwin Neal from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. He was the crazed hitchhiker the teens pick up in the beginning of the movie. You can't really tell in this photo, but he had a really bad toupe, and he was wearing a shirt that said "Tastes Like Chicken." And he was rad.
