They're filming Rent right by my office today, trying to pass off South Park as Tompkins Square in New York, so I had lunch with a friend at one of the cafes that lines the park in order to do some gawking. We witnessed, I kid you not, the crew force some actual homeless people to leave the benches they were camped out on, in order to replace them with homeless-looking extras.
I am SO glad I don't live in L.A.
We also watched Rosario Dawson walk across the park about five times for a scene in which she may or may not have bought crack from some guy hanging out under a street lamp. (A fake street lamp.)
